Lab expectations    

Being a member of the HERO lab requires two forms of commitment – a commitment to the spirit, mission, and wellbeing of the lab, and a commitment to following the lab’s rules and procedures. Current members are required to adhere to these expectations, and prospective applicants should take these expectations into account before applying to work with the lab.

Commitment to Spirit, Mission, and Wellbeing of the HERO Lab

Members of the lab are expected to:

Commitment

  • Take interest in

    • Topics including high-reliability, emotions, and risk in organizations

    • The knowledge being generated by the lab

    • The communities being served by the lab’s findings

  • Be willing to commit time and effort to research projects

  • Produce high-quality academic work

  • Treat the lab as a team by pursuing collaborative growth and development

Commitment to Policies & Procedures

Policies

Members of the lab are expected to:

  • Attend biweekly 90-minute meetings

    • Spring 2018: Mondays 12:30PM-2:00PM

    • Actively participate in lab meetings by presenting new research or ideas, listening intently to others’ presentations, offering constructive feedback on research in progress, and maintaining a collegial atmosphere within the lab

  • Participate in at least one lab-affiliated research project per semester

  • Demonstrate active interest in building connections between the lab and community at large

  • Adhere to the highest of research ethics standards

  • Maintain good standing in their graduate program (if applicable)
